ACCESSORIZING LEDGES

Many of today’s newer homes have pot shelves or ledges, which are very high and difficult for many of you to decorate.  I have accessorized many of these areas for clients and in model homes.  Here are a few tips to consider when you are accessorizing these shelves.

·         Use large items, such as vases, baskets, birdcages and greenery that provides height and spill over.  Tiny objects ...

SPECIAL ARTWORK

Special artwork is that picture or handmade object you already have.  You don’t need to buy it.  It could be an art project your child painted, or a crocheted heirloom your grandmother made.  Pictures of your family and three-dimensional objects (like baby shoes, hats, etc.) are all marvelous ways to decorate your walls.  Each family will have its own treasures that can be framed or transformed into the most wonderful art wall imaginable!  No matter what the object is, if you think you’d like to see it hanging on your wall, then my advice is GO FOR IT!

WHERE DO YOU FIND ARTWORK?

Artwork, framed or unframed, is a picture of objects, scenes, landscapes, people, animals, etc. that you enjoy looking at.  It can be found everywhere and anywhere!  The challenge of finding just the right thing can be a fun adventure.  Don’t rule out any possible source. I have seen wonderful art at hardware stores, garage sales, auctions, flea markets and in local bed and bath shops.  Look everywhere!  The obvious places to look are art galleries, furniture stores, home decorating specialty stores, craft stores, antique shops and accessory stores.   Don’t forget to check your Grandmothers ...

PATTERNED FABRIC TIPS

Let me provide you some decorator secrets for your tip files.  Most patterned fabrics are 54” wide and are sold by the yard.  The cost per yard will vary according to the quality, manufacturer and retail store. “Pattern repeats” are a part of any kind of patterned fabrics.  This repeat must be taken into consideration when estimating the fabric quantity needed for a project.
Sometimes a patterned fabric may be railroaded, which means the pattern repeat is not strong or large enough to dictate using the fabric in traditional widths.  If the fabric you want is ...

I'm Back
Hey,
I'm back!  I've been on another trip, and just got back.  I'm going to get this blog going again, but I have a torn rotor cuff injury which I will probably need surgery for, so hang in there as I get up and going again.  I have lots of new stuff to post.  I've been working on my book also, which seems to be taking forever, but I think it will be great when I get it done.  I will probably be offering it FREE for a limited time to get some feedback, so keep in touch so you don't miss out on the free offer.  You might want to go to my website Home Decorationg Pro and sign up for the Free Newsletter which I will use to notify everyone of the limited Free offer of my 2nd Edition of Secrets to a Beautiful Home.  Talk to you soon

Happy Decorating

Bathroom Faucets

Second:  Bathroom Faucets are an important element in every bathroom.  They should have silky smooth action and gleaming finishes.  Choose styles or models that make you feel good and complement your décor.  For example: A high tech contemporary faucet set will look out of place in a formal traditional bathroom and vice versa.  Another point to consider is that no one wants annoying drips, stifled water pressure, or corroding finishes, so if you want to consider replacing the ...

Should I Reupholster My Existing Furniture or Buy New Furniture?

This is an extremely common question I have been asked over the years. Often we have furniture that is in perfectly good condition, but we are tired of the colors, or the fabric is dated and worn. Here is how I have responded to clients about this question. First, I believe you should evaluate the quality and style of the piece. If you have good quality furniture and you are still happy with the style, then reupholstering may be the right thing to do. However, if your furniture was low to moderate quality, then it is usually ...

LET'S TALK PAINT

Paint can be the biggest bang for your buck!!  Repainting a room, furniture, lamp, accessory etc. can work wonders in redecorating.   A $15-20 investment in a can of paint can totally transform any object or space into a new creation.

You could paint a room, ceiling and trim for minimal expense and create a backdrop for a sophisticated formal room or cute child’s theme room.  Use your imagination and draw from your key/inspiration fabric or item as the catalyst for the paint color choices.  Be sure to test paint some samples before total application.  ...

DECORATING FURNITURE
Here are some great ideas.  Dress up a plain chair or sofa by using a hot glue gun to attach beautiful fringes, cords or braiding along the bottom of the seat.  Paint a wooden chair or bar stool many different colors or patterns, like a Victorian house.  Create in instant slipcover with a large flat sheet – throw over, tuck in, and tie off with ribbon, cotton rope or decorative braiding.  Consider new uses for old furniture.  A garage sale find can be refinished or repainted and used wherever you desire.  Dining tables (particularly glass top) can be converted to ...
